The Betharam Convent in Bethlehem hosts a 25 rooms hostel with facilities. Our assignment was the extension and complete remodel- ling of the hostel, and its connection with the main convent building. The two focal points of the project were concentrated on the extension through the facade of the hostel, enlarging its room capacity, and in the renovation of the basement floor of the 1900’s main building into a dining room. The proposed facade is designed as an object clipped on the old struc- ture, enlarging the existing building and allowing the increase of the number of rooms. This “clip-on” facade is treated with rough concrete finish, and with a regular windows rhythm, contrasting with the very present 1900s architecture.
